In Kolhapur, Chetan Patil, a structural engineer involved in the collapse of the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in Malvan, surrendered to the police at 12.30 am on Friday. He turned himself in through a friend after authorities had been searching for him. Patil, residing in Chikodi, Belagavi district, Karnataka, was handed over to a Malvan police team. Following a medical examination, he was arrested and charged under various sections of the law with sculptor Jaydip Apte. Inspector Ashok Kolhe of Malvan police mentioned that while Patil has been arrested, the sculptor remains at large. Patil, who works as a professor at a private engineering college, was responsible for the project design as a structural engineer.
